PTP 2000 Partial-flow particle collector

The PTP-2000 is used to measure soot particles in the exhaust gas of diesel engines according to the legal requirement of ISO 8178 and the guidline to 91/542 EWG and ECE R 49.

Application

Task
The PTP-2000 is suitable for use on engine test beds.
Functions and tasks:

  • Proportional sampling of a partial exhaust gas flow from the overall exhaust gas mass flow
  • Mixing the partial gas flow with dilution air
  • Retaining and collecting exhaust gas particles on Filter pairs
  • Measurement of the current mass flow for diluted exhaust gas sample
  • Evaluation of the test procedure and checking for conformity with the legal requirements
  • Storing program runs / free programmable
  • 10 program runs have been preprogrammed by the factory
  • Storing test results


Process
Gravimetric measurement of the particle mass emission from a partial mass exhaust gas flow that is proportional to the overall exhaust gas flow.
The relevant flow rates of the PTP-2000 are measured by thermostaticized mass flowmeters (MFM).

Design
The PTP-2000 consists of the following sub-assemblies:

  • Exhaust gas pipe
  • Sampling probe and micro tunnel
  • Height-adjustable and rolling sampling system including filter elements
  • Control cabinet
  • Connection lines between the control cabinet and the sampling system (10 m standard).


System description
The PTP-2000 has been developed on the basis of legal requirements such as: 91/542/EWG and ISO 8178.
The dilution of the partial exhaust gas flow is measured with a mass flowmeter.
The test procedures described in the legal requirements, such as:

  • 13 stage single filter
  • 13 stage multiple filter (up to 15 units)
  • 8 mode type C 1
  • 7 mode type C 2
  • 6 mode type G 1/2
  • 5 mode type D 2
  • 3 mode type D 1
  • 2 mode type G 3

are directly available from the system for process, evalution and monitoring.
The flow rates can be adjusted continuously.
In order to function both by closed and open loop control, the mass flowmeters constitute an optimal unit inconjunction with electric proportional valves and the digital control system.

Weighing equipment
The required high rate of precision of the weighing result demands the use of microscales in a special weighing chamber.
Since the function and the design also have to meet the legal requirements, PIERBURG provides the pure-air equipment PRE-2000.

  • Purity class 100 according to Fed. Stand 209 B
  • Purity class 3 according to VDI 2083
