eCycle's motor/generator is a 3 phase, 5 kW continuous, 15 kW peak, brushless design
eCycle's motor/generator is a 3 phase, 5 kW continuous, 15 kW peak, brushless design. It weighs 5 kg, is 178 mm in diameter and 85 mm long. It operates in a range of 120-160 VDC, up to 100 A, and 7200 rpm. The twelve pole wye-connected design generates a torque constant of 0.16 Nm/amp, and a back EMF of 16.75 V/krpm. The inductance of the motor is 40 µH, and the resistance is 0.040 mOhm. The motor is 95% efficient.

The stator is made from 29 gauge, M15 electrical steel laminations, which are are stamped, stacked, and wound with 15 gauge, insulated copper wire. The stator employs 4 turns per phase of 2 parallel conductors.

The rotor is made from the same steel laminations used in the stator. These laminations have 12 NdFeB magnets, contained with a stainless steel band, bonded around the circumference, and a steel shaft pressed into the center. The magnets are 30 MGO, and 150°C rated. The tubular shaft has 25 mm O.D. and a 20 mm bore to which a custom shaft may be mated.

The housing is all aluminum. The central housing is made from aluminum tube stock cut to a length of 37 mm, and anodized. The cover plates are made from 24 mm thick cast aluminum, which is machined and anodized. Each cover plate contains a sealed 25 mm ball bearing.
