The MD-AWD-500-SE tests both axles of the test vehicle under the same imposed load
All-Wheel-Drive Transmissions are more common than they were five-years ago, and many of the newer high performance vehicles are equipped with sophisticated traction control systems that prohibit testing on single axle chassis dynamometers. The MD-AWD-500-SE tests both axles of the test vehicle under the same imposed load; while at the same time provides for a front-to-rear axle synchronized speed. This is achieved by connecting front and rear via a high performance Aramid Fiber Belt. This prevents the chassis dynamometer from "simulating" slippage, which has been a major concern associated with eddy current chassis dynamometers that rely on the dynamometer controller alone.

With a maximum power absorption of 605-hp, the MD-AWD-500-SE is designed to handle a broad range of automotive tests, from high performance testing to pure diagnostics and emissions-related repair. You can run an entire battery of vehicle tests, including Virtual Inertia™ Road Load Simulation and Programmed Speed Testing, without ever leaving the confines of your shop.

Variations in wheelbase are easily accommodated without the use of moving parts, which eliminates the high cost and maintenance associated with large gearboxes, drive lines, and hydraulics. The MD-AWD-500-SE accommodates wheelbases from 84-inches to 126-inches in a base configuration without moving parts. An adjustable, or breakable, coupling is provided with the base unit that allows for a means to disengage the system from AWD mode. An optional air-clutch is available which can be used to accomplish the same feat from the control console with the push of a button.

The MD-AWD-500-SE is constructed with heavy duty structural steel frame and includes a heavy-duty restraint kit. A complete Pentium-III computer package with color monitor accompanies every system. This microcomputer based control system provides for real-time data logging of torque, horsepower and speed parameters, while optional modules provide for Air-to-Fuel Ratio, Engine RPM, Boost, Exhaust Gas Temperatures, and complete five-gas concentration readings under load.

The SE Model comes with a single Eddy Current Power Absorption Unit (PAU), but is completely upgradeable to the DE model, which provides for an additional PAU and a maximum load absorption increase in AWD Mode to 750-hp.
