The microrelay brings microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology to the commercial marketplace and gives engineers and designers options in relays for telecommunications, ATE, automotive and other emerging applications. The device measures 1.5 mm x 1mm with a height of 600 microns. With a current-carrying capacity of 300 milliamps, the microrelay meets current requirements for a number of applications in telecommunications and data communications. The device is available in a range of actuation voltages as low as five V. The thermally actuated microrelay features nickel-surface micromachined components with gold contacts for high conductivity. The metal-to-metal contacts offer 300 milliohms and off-resistance, or isolation 1013 ohms.
