Industrial Ethernet Components

N/Argy & Automation, Inc. has released a series of new Industrial Ethernet components that allows users to build a complete, high-bandwidth network with Internet management capabilities.

The new SIMATIC NET series of control hardware, firmware and cabling options complements a line of high-speed switches for integrating production floor and critical IT data at transfer rates of 100 Mbits/sec. All components have been optimized for easy connectivity with a "native socket" TCP/IP firmware interface, meaning that there is no proprietary application layer protocol.

The existing SIMATIC OSM (Optical Switching Module) and ESM (Electical Switching Module) serve as a main Ethernet network switching hub for optical fiber and twisted pair cabling respectively.

The OSM and ESM are joined by new 100Mbit/sec Ethernet communications processors for PCs and SIMATIC S7 PLCs (S7 300, S7 400), creating easy network access to controller data via 9-pin or RJ45 connections. The PLC modules contain an embedded web server that also provides email client functionality.
