A line of modular heavy-duty front non-drive steer axles is available
ArvinMeritorodular heavy-duty front non-drive steer axles is available. The axles, available in gross axle weight ratings (GAWR) ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 lb., offer a tight turning radius, easier steering capability in hard braking situations, reduced weight and specific design features for simplified maintenance. They are designed for city delivery, linehaul, construction, refuse, school bus, motorhome, fire truck, rescue, logging and mining applications. Six axle models in the series—designated MFS-10-1015/16-N, MFS-10-2015, MFS-12-1015/16-N, MFS-12-2015—are available. They are offered with both conventional and unitized wheel ends.

The front axle series features a modular design approach allowing for parts interchangeability with the company's current front steer axle product line. Steering knuckles, beams and wheel end equipment are interchangeable for increased parts availability, reduced parts inventory and simplified service.
Standard features of the series include:

  • 71.5-in. kingpin inclination (KPI) to achieve 55° turning radius;
  • 3.74-in. and 5.0-in. axle beam drops provide flexibility for various engine mount configurations;
  • Low friction bushings made of acetate resin polymer to help reduce steering effort and provide longer life;
  • Induction-hardened keystone steering arms for improved durability;
  • Double draw keys, which hold kingpin more firmly in place for increased front end stability.
