The Oakwood Grouptic is a plastic energy absorber used for applications such as automotive interior head rails and pillars. The design meets the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for head injury protection.
The energy absorber is typically less expensive and more effective than other technologies such as rigid foam energy absorbers. The technology allows absorbers to be made by thermoforming commodity plastics. The material is melt recyclable, reduces weight, and can be changed in stiffness without retooling. The absorber is made without the use of additional clips or adhesives, and offers the opportunity to form ducts and wiring attachments right in the absorber.
