Fluent Inc. announces Icepak 2.2, electronic cooling design software that allows users to set up, solve and analyze solutions for cooling electronics in computer and data processing products.

Icepak allows an engineer to build a computer model of a product or system design, then prototype it, testing it under real-world conditions so that they can verify designs or make changes. The driver behind Icepak's performance and usability gains is a solver engine that utilizes the finite-volume method (FVM) solver from Fluent's CFD software, FLUENT/UNS. Icepak 2.2 also includes features that make users' analysis and communication of results more effective. For example, data can be output to all major graphics formats, such as .tiff, .gif, and .jpeg for quick conversion into reports and presentations. Report formats are also customized, stored, and reused.

Icepak is used for design of electronics thermal management systems in the computer, telecommunications, consumer electronics, and automotive industries. It predicts cooling at the component, board and cabinet levels, allowing designers to optimize designs without more physical prototyping. Icepak 2.2 is now available on all major UNIX and NT platforms as a license renewed annually.
