Electric Power Steering

Delphi Automotive PLCER Electric Power Steering System features an all-electric, engine-independent design eliminating the traditional hydraulic power steering system's pump, hoses, hydraulic fluid, drive belt and pulley on the engine, thereby reducing mass and increasing packaging flexibility.

The system helps improve a vehicle's fuel economy by an average of five percent compared with a traditional hydraulic steering system.

The system's steering effort is correlated to vehicle speed, steering torque and steering position. Delphi's advanced algorithms, or mathematical formulas, turn these vehicle inputs into world-class steering feel.

Some of the advanced features of the system can help enhance the returnability characteristics of the steering with its assisted return-to-center feature. Assisted return-to-center allows the suspension designer more latitude in setting parameters -- no longer does the designer have to make suspension trade-offs to achieve the necessary
returnability characteristics.
