Dry Paint Film

Avery Dennison Variable Image Tag and Label dry paint film laminate is OEM approved and specifically formulated and designed for use with injection molded plastic parts. By using a paint film, both high and low gloss quality finishes can be produced without the need for spray painting operations and their related environmental VOC and disposal issues.

The dry paint film is made by casting a clear coat and then a base coat, in a reverse roll coating process. Behind the base coat, a layer of thermoplastic adhesive is applied. The cured paint film layers are laminated to a thermoplastic backing sheet with heat and pressure. The dry paint film laminate is supplied in roll form to the molder and is thermoformed and precision trimmed into shape of the finished Class A surface. This preformed applique is then inserted into the injection mold cavity. During molding, a melt bond forms that results in the dry film laminate becoming permanently integrated into the final molded part.
