The Burke Porter family of Chassis Dynamometer systems, provide an alternative to testing vehicles on the test track or highway. With the machine installed below floor level, vehicles are driven onto the rollers, centered, and held in place with a vehicle restraint system. The machine then simulates road conditions in the speed, torque, or road load control modes, allowing the vehicle experience the same forces it would encounter on the test track or highway. The control system is programmed to compute forces exerted at the surface of the rolls. Digital controls are used to accurately simulate road load conditions, which can be modified by entering various road load factors into the program at the Dyno Console. The digital control system also provides an automatic calibration function for measuring machine losses and a means of compensating for them during subsequent operations. A stop watch function performs coast down checks for monitoring machine performance and control. The control system also features an optional Drivers Pendant, which allows the vehicle driver to select the mode of operation and to set or change the reference(s) for that mode.
