BI Technologies Corporationgies has developed a sensor module for an all-electric power steering system for a production vehicle. The module contains a torque and a position sensor that detects the angular position of the driver's steering wheel and activates the electronic and motor assemblies that provide the steering assist.
The dual element sensor module gives the electric power steering system the ability to use electric power "on-demand" instead of continuously drawing power from the engine through drive belts.
The electric power steering sensor is constructed using resistive film technology that provides stability and performance at temperature extremes (-40°C to +85°C). The sensor assembly is enclosed in a thermoplastic housing.
