Electronic Design
Donnelly has been involved in electronic design since the mid-1980s. One way the company has used its electronic expertise is in the area of electrochromic (automatic-dimming) mirrors and windows. These mirrors and windows use electronic sensors to determine the level of glare, and then dim the glass accordingly.
In addition to its in-house expertise, Donnelly has formed a strategic business relationship, called Donnelly Electronics, to strengthen its electronics capabilities. This business relationship, is a joint venture established in 1996 to produce the electronic components used in Donnelly's electrochromic mirrors and electronic compasses. Over time, Donnelly Electronics is expected to provide electronics for Donnelly products that may include lighting systems and rear-vision camera systems.
By integrating electronic systems with other technologies, Donnelly creates products of higher value and function.
