PPG's Ceramiclear D8126 Designated For Repair Of Nissan's New OEM Finish

Strongsville, OH - The Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has approved CeramiClear D8126 Mar and Scratch Resistant Clearcoat from PPG Automotive Refinish for the refinish repair of its new Scratch Guard Coat.

Nissan's Scratch Guard Coat is a clear paint that repairs scratches on painted car surfaces, including scratches that result from such occurances as car-washes, off-road driving, and polishing. According to Nissan, scratches from car washes account for the majority of scratches to painted car surfaces.

CeramiClear D8126 Mar and Scratch-Resistant Clearcoat utilizes a silica nanoparticle technology developed and patented by PPG to create a glass-like, extremely hard surface for superior gloss retention and resistance to car wash and polish scratches.

PPG introduced its OEM CeramiClear in 2003, initially designed for the 2003 Mercedez-Benz. D8126 was put on the market the following year and won the Gold award at the International Grands Prix for Technical Innovation in Europe in 2005, an award recognizing expertise and technical excellence in the vehicle equipment sector for the past 20 years.

"PPG's technical team in the Allison Park, Pennsylvania facility specifically developed tougher durability tests for our OEM CeramiClear, since no automotive coating had achieved this level of mar resistance before," said Randy Cremeans, manager, collision segment North America, for PPG Automotive Refinish."PPG's refinish CeramiClear, D8126 performs to the same standards as the OEM finish. D8126 is unmatched in scratch, mar, and acid resistance and retention of gloss."

D8126 underwent an extremely rigorous testing process developed by Nissan engineers before receiving approval. Nissan will distribute a service bulletin outlining refinish repair procedures using D8126 to its global Nissan distributors by the end of this year.
